Aquilla Arnold

Aquilla M. Arnold (January 8, 1846 - March 10, 1933) served as a corporal in Company M, 13th Tennessee Volunteer Cavalry.

Personal life

Aquilla Arnold was born January 8, 1846 in Johnson County, Tennessee to William "Billie" and Mary "Polly" (Fry) Arnold. He married Hannah L. E. J. Heck (1847-1933) with whom he had at least ten children.

Civil War service

Arnold enlisted as a private in Company M on February 2, 1864 in Knoxville, Tennessee for a period of three years. He mustered in May 15, 1864 in Gallatin, Tennessee.

At enlistment he is described as 5'5" tall, dark complexion, dark eyes, dark hair, and by occupation a farmer.

He is listed as present for duty throughout his term of service. Arnold was appointed corporal on January 1, 1865.

Arnold mustered out with regiment on September 5, 1865 at Knoxville. He had last been paid to August 31, 1864, owed $92.49 to the government for clothing, had received a bounty of $60, and was owed a $240 bounty.

Post-war life

Arnold applied for an invalid's pension on December 7, 1882. He died March 10, 1933 in Neva, Tennessee and is buried at John D. Arnold Cemetery in Mountain City, Tennessee. His wife applied for a widow's pension on April 24, 1933.
