Asa C. Foster (December 27, 1837 - June 30, 1883) served as a private in Company F, 13th Tennessee Volunteer Cavalry.
Personal life[]
Asa Foster was born December 27, 1837 in Carter County, Tennessee. He married Vina Crow (1846-1926) with whom he had nine children.[1]
Civil War service[]
Foster enlisted as a private in Company F on September 12, 1863 in Greeneville, Tennessee for a period of three years and mustered in October 20, 1864 at New Market, Tennessee.
He is described as 27 years old, 6' 1" tall, fair complexion, blue eyes, light hair, and by occupation a farmer.
Foster is listed as present for duty at muster out, but only one of his muster roll records has survived.
Foster mustered out with the regiment on September 5, 1865 at Knoxville. He had never been paid, owed $25.98 to the government for clothing, and was owed a $100 bounty.
Post-war life[]
Foster died June 30, 1883 and is buried at Earnest Chapel Cemetery in Washington County, Tennessee. His wife applied for a widow's pension on May 13, 1889. His daughter, Mace Foster applied for a "H.C." pension on September 23, 1926.
