Calbert Rigsby (abt 1843 - bef August 9, 1890) served as a corporal in Company K, 13th Tennessee Volunteer Cavalry.
Personal life[]
Calbert Rigsby was born about 1843 in Washington County, Tennessee to Peleg and Elizabeth (Hampton) Rigsby.
Civil War service[]
Rigsby enlisted as a private in Company K on November 1, 1863 in Knoxville, Tennessee for a period of three years and mustered in January 26, 1864 at Nashville, Tennessee. He was promoted to corporal on September 15, 1864.
He is described as 18 years old, 5' 9" tall, fair complexion, blue eyes, light hair, and by occupation a farmer.[1]
Rigsby is listed as present for duty throughout his term of service for which muster roll records have survived.
Rigsby mustered out with the regiment on September 5, 1865 at Knoxville. He had last been paid to August 31, 1864, owed $40.63 to the government for clothing, had been paid a $25 bounty, and was owed a $75 bounty.
Post-war life[]
Rigsby's father applied for his son's pension on August 9, 1890. Calbert likely died in July 1890. Where he died and where he is buried has not been located.

- ↑ Because he was still 18 years old when he mustered out of the service, it is highly likely that he lied about his age at enlistment, being older not younger. The 1850 U.S. Census (Washington County, Tennessee) gives his age as 7 as of November 10.
