Charles Bradshaw Dickson (November 20, 1844 - November 25, 1937) served as a private in Company C, 13th Tennessee Volunteer Cavalry.

Personal life[]

Charles Dickson was born November 20, 1844 in McDowell County, North Carolina to Charles William and Elizabeth Adaline (Bradshaw) Dickson.[1] He married first Mary Jane Sanders, whom he divorced after a very short time for desertion.[2] He married second Ruth Jane Green (1859-1939) with whom he had 11 children.[3]

Civil War service[]

Dickson enlisted as a private in Company C on February 1, 1865 in Mitchell County, North Carolina for a period of three years and mustered in September 1, 1865 at Knoxville, Tennessee.

He is described as 18 years old, 5' 6" tall, dark complexion, blue eyes, dark hair, and by occupation a farmer.

Dickson is listed as present for duty until May 6, 1865 when he was left sick at an unrecorded location in North Carolina; when he returned to the regiment was not recorded.

Dickson mustered out with the regiment on September 5, 1865 at Knoxville. He had never been paid, owed $17.19 to the government for clothing, and was owed a $100 bounty.

Post-war life[]

By 1876, Dickson moved to Arkansas where he married; he moved his family to Texas between 1900 and 1907. Dickson applied for an invalid's pension on March 3, 1892.

Dickson died on November 25, 1937 in Hedley, Texas and is buried there at Rowe Cemetery.
