Charles H. Hunter (about 1844 - February 14, 1865) served as a private in Company I, 13th Tennessee Volunteer Cavalry.
Personal life
Charles Hunter was born about 1844 in Blount County, Tennessee.
Civil War service
Hunter enlisted as a private in Company I on January 15, 1864 in Taylorsville, Tennessee for a period of three years and mustered in August 31, 1864 at Gallatin, Tennessee.
He is described as 20 years old, 5' 6" tall, fair complexion, blue eyes, light hair, and by occupation a farmer.
Muster roll records show Hunter present for duty until his death, and that he was given daily duties at regimental headquarters for the months of December 1864 and January 1865. When Hunter was left sick in U.S. Asylum General at Knoxville was not recorded. He died there on February 14, 1865 due to typhoid pneumonia; he had no personal effects. His death record indicates that he had received $68.67 in clothing since November 14, 1864 and was last paid to December 31, 1864.
When the regiment mustered out on September 5, 1865 at Knoxville it was noted that he had last been paid through August 31, 1864 and had been paid a $60 bounty.
Hunter is buried at Knoxville National Cemetery.
