David Landrine Eggers (May 16, 1843 - November 16, 1909) served as a private in Companies D and G, 13th Tennessee Volunteer Cavalry.

Personal life

David Landrine Eggers was born to Abner and Charlotte Hagemann (Ford) Eggers in Washington County, Tennessee. He married Ellen Jane Reed (1847 - 1936) with whom he had at least eight children.

Civil War service

Eggers enlisted as a private in Company G on September 24, 1863 at Greeneville, Tennessee for a period of three years.[1] He was due to be mustered in October 28, 1863 at Strawberry Plains, Tennessee but is listed as "absent". He next appears as present for duty in the regimental records as enlisting December 31, 1863 and as having been appointed corporal on October 1, 1863.[2] Eggers was transferred from Company G to Company D on October 28, 1863 by order of Colonel John K. Miller. He is listed as present for duty until August 4, 1864 when he is reported as "Left at Gallatin, Tenn. Sick."

Eggers mustered out September 5, 1865 at Knoxville. It is noted that he "Deserted from camp near Marion, Va., Dec. 20th, 64. Reduced to ranks Jan. the 1st, 65. Returned to duty May 1, 1865, in compliance with the President's Proclamation." He had been paid through August 31, 1864 and owed $15.26 for clothing and received a bounty of $25 for his service.

Post-war life

Eggers applied for an invalid's pension dated December 19, 1882. He died November 16, 1909 in Johnson County, Tennessee and is buried at Eggers Cemetery in Laurel Bloomery, Tennessee. His wife applied for a widow's pension dated December 6, 1909.

  1. Another record indicates that he enlisted in Carter County, Tennessee.
  2. September 24, 1863 is also found as his date of appointment as corporal.
