George J. Lowe (February 6, 1846 - September 2, 1908) served as a corporal in Company F, 13th Tennessee Volunteer Cavalry.
George Lowe was born February 6, 1846 in Carter County, Tennessee to Jacob and Rebecca (Jackson) Lowe. He married Jemima Jane Colbaugh (1847-1919) with whom he had at least ten children.
Civil War service
Lowe enlisted as a private in Company F on September 20, 1863 at Elizabethton, Tennessee for a period of three years and mustered in October 28, 1863 at Strawberry Plains, Tennessee.
Lowe was appointed corporal on January 1, 1865. He was present for duty throughout his entire term of service.
Lowe mustered out with regiment on September 5, 1865 at Knoxville. He had last been paid to August 31, 1864, owed $20.03 to the government for clothing, had been paid a $25 bounty, and was owed a $75 bounty.
Lowe applied for an invalid's pension on December 29, 1877. His wife applied a widow's pension on September 21, 1908.
Lowe died September 2, 1908 in Carter County, Tennessee and is buried at Grindstaff Cemetery in Carter County.
