Jackson Davis (abt 1843 - abt October 1896) served as an under cook in Company L, 13th Tennessee Volunteer Cavalry. He is one of twenty-two black men known to have served with the regiment, all of whom served as company cooks.

Personal life

No record of where Davis was born has been found.

Civil War service

Jackson Davis enlisted in Company L on October 1, 1864 in Knoxville, Tennessee at age 21 for a period of three years. He mustered in on December 6, 1864.

Davis' records were apparently lost or destroyed. Only two muster roll records have been found.

According to the muster rolls he was present every month throughout his service. He mustered out with the regiment on September 5, 1865 at Knoxville. Records state that he had not been paid since enlistment and was owed $36.14 from the government for his clothing.

Later life

His wife Anna E. Davis applied for a widow's pension on November 4, 1896 where she was living in Tennessee.
