James King (about 1846 - March 6, 1864) served as a private in Company D, 13th Tennessee Volunteer Cavalry.

Personal life

James King was born about 1846 in Ashe County, North Carolina to Robert King.

Civil War service

King enlisted as a private in Company D on September 24, 1863 in Greeneville, Tennessee for a period of three years and mustered in October 28, 1863 at Strawberry Plains, Tennessee.

He is described as 18 years old, 5' 10" tall, dark complexion, blue eyes, dark hair, and by occupation a farmer.

King is listed as present for duty until he became ill. He died March 6, 1864 in Ward 5, Hospital Number 8 at Nashville, Tennessee due to typhoid fever and bronchial pneumonia. His personal effects consisted of one uniform jacket, one pair trousers, one pair boots, one pair gloves, and spurs; he had received $38.10 in clothing since his enlistment and had not received any bounty.

King is buried at Nashville National Cemetery in Madison, Tennessee.
