Jesse Bacon Galloway (July 1, 1842 - September 28, 1906) served as a corporal in Company K, 13th Tennessee Volunteer Cavalry.
Personal life[]
Jesse Galloway was born July 1, 1842 in Washington County, Tennessee to Isaac and Phoebe (Bacon) Galloway. He married first Mary A. Squibb (1846-1869) with whom he had two children.[1] He married second Sarah M. Hale (1850-1888) with whom he had at least seven children.[2] He married third Lucretia M. Rector (1851-1918) with whom he had seven children.[3]
Civil War service[]
Galloway enlisted as a private in Company K on August 21, 1863 in Louisville, Kentucky for a period of three years and mustered in January 26, 1864 at Nashville, Tennessee. He was appointed corporal on December 31, 1863.
He is described as 21 years old, 5' 8" tall, fair complexion, blue eyes, light hair, and by occupation a farmer.
Galloway is listed as present for duty until November / December 1863 when he was sick in Nelson Hospital at Camp Nelson, Kentucky; when he returned to duty was not recorded. He was again left sick in Cumberland General Hospital at Nashville in March / April 1864; when he returned to the regiment was not recorded.
Galloway mustered out with the regiment on September 5, 1865 at Knoxville. He had last been paid to August 31, 1864, owed $31.11 to the government for clothing, had been paid a $25 bounty, and was owed a $75 bounty.
Post-war life[]
Galloway applied for an invalid's pension on February 23, 1871. He died September 28, 1906 in Washington County, Tennessee and is buried at Walker-Galloway Cemetery in Sulphur Springs, Tennessee. His wife applied for a widow's pension on October 10, 1906.
