John Holman (1847 - June 2, 1893) served as a private in Company H, 13th Tennessee Volunteer Cavalry.
Personal life[]
John Holman was born in 1847 in Overton County, Tennessee to Jones Reuben and Temperance (Holman) Holman. He married Victoria Ogletree (1845-1918) with whom he had at least nine children.
Civil War service[]
Holman enlisted as a private in Company H on October 1, 1863 in Overton County for a period of three years and mustered in February 25, 1864 at Nashville, Tennessee.
He is described as 18 years old, 5' 3" tall, fair complexion, blue eyes, light hair, and by occupation a farmer.[1]
Holman is listed as present for duty throughout his term of service for which muster roll records have survived.
Holman mustered out with the regiment on September 5, 1865 at Knoxville. He had last been paid to August 31, 1864, was owed $22.66 from the government for clothing, had been paid a $25 bounty, and was owed a $75 bounty.
Post-war life[]
Holman died June 2, 1893 in Cumberland County, Kentucky and is buried at Barnes Cemetery in Burkesville, Kentucky.
