Jonathan Lewis Parker (February 18, 1838 - November 6, 1915) served as a corporal in Company E, 13th Tennessee Volunteer Cavalry.
Personal life
Jonathan Parker was born February 18, 1838 in Ashe County, North Carolina to Jesse and Susannah (Lewis) Parker. He married Mary Jane Foster (1841-1919) with whom he had twelve children.[1]
Civil War service
Parker enlisted as a private in Company E on September 24, 1863 in Greeneville, Tennessee for a period of three years and mustered in November 8, 1863 at Knoxville, Tennessee. He was appointed corporal on March 24, 1865 by order of Lieutenant Colonel Stacy.
He is described as 25 years old, 5' 8 1/2" tall, fair complexion, blue eyes, light hair, and by occupation a farmer.
Parker is listed as present for duty throughout his term of service for which muster roll records have survived.
Parker mustered out with the regiment on September 5, 1865 at Knoxville. He had last been paid to June 30, 1864, was owed $15.47 from the government for clothing, had been paid a $25 bounty, and was owed a $75 bounty.
Post-war life
Parker applied for an invalid's pension on April 18, 1881. He died November 6, 1915 in North Fork Township, Ashe County and is buried at Jonathan Parker Family Cemetery in Parker, North Carolina. His wife applied for a widow's pension on November 26, 1915.
