Stephen Ratliff

Stephen Ratliff (born abt. 1846) served as a private in Company K, 13th Tennessee Volunteer Cavalry.

Personal life

Stephen Ratliff was born about 1846 in Knox County, Tennessee.[1]

Civil War service

Ratliff first enlisted as a private in Company F, 3rd Tennessee Mounted Infantry on July 1, 1864 in Greene County, Tennessee for a period of 100 days and mustered in September 29, 1864 at Knoxville, Tennessee. He then enlisted as a private in Company K, 13th Tennessee Cavalry on October 22, 1864 in New Market, Tennessee for a period of three years and mustered in at Knoxville.[2]

He is described as 18 years old, 5' 5" tall, dark complexion, black eyes, black hair, and by occupation a farmer.

Ratliff deserted December 12, 1864 at Knoxville. He stole his "gun, sabre, & equipments." He was dishonorably discharged and no further record of any service is found.
