Thomas Burleson (1826 - July 11, 1889) served as a private in Company C, 13th Tennessee Volunteer Cavalry.

Personal life

Thomas Burleson was born to James and Mary R. (Buchanan) Burleson in Burke County, North Carolina. He married Jane Greene (1836 - 1923). Together they had at least eleven children.

Civil War service

Burleson enlisted September 24, 1863 in Carter County, Tennessee for a period of three years. He mustered in November 4, 1863 at Knoxville, Tennessee. His surname is misspelled as "Burlerson" in the Tennessee Adjutant General's Report.

He is listed as present for duty throughout his term of service.

Burleson mustered out September 5, 1865 at Knoxville. He had been paid through August 31, 1864 and owed $7.32 for clothing and received a bounty of $25 for his service with another $75 due to him.

Post-war life

Burleson applied for an invalid's pension dated February 18, 1870. His wife applied for a widow's pension on December 2, 1889 and his son J. Sherman Burleson applied for a guardianship pension for his mother on June 25, 1913.

Burleson died July 11, 1889 in Mitchell County, North Carolina and is buried in Cane Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Hawk, North Carolina.
