Umberson Dunn (November 5, 1844 - March 21, 1916) served as a private in Company M, 13th Tennessee Volunteer Cavalry.

Personal life
Umberson Dunn was born October 6, 1837 in Johnson County, Tennessee to Larkin and Catherine (Jackson) Dunn. He married Josephine Wilson (1852-1924) with whom he had at at least eleven children.
Civil War service
Dunn enlisted as a private in Company M on February 2, 1864 in Taylorsville, Tennessee for a period of three years and mustered in May 15, 1864 at Gallatin, Tennessee.
He is described as 18 years old, 5' 6" tall, fair complexion, blue eyes, light hair, and by occupation a farmer.
Dunn is listed as present for duty until September 30, 1864 when he deserted at Carters Station, Tennessee.[1] He returned to the regiment on May 1, 1865 and was pardoned per President Lincoln's proclamation. He was present for duty for the remainder of his term of service.
Dunn mustered out with the regiment on September 5, 1865 at Knoxville. He had been paid to August 31, 1864, owed $38.38 to the government for clothing, and had been paid a bounty of $60.
Post-war life
Dunn died March 21, 1916 in Johnson County, Tennessee and is buried at Stateline Cemetery in Johnson County.[2]
