William Jenkins (August 26, 1835 - October 14, 1864) served as a private in Company M, 13th Tennessee Volunteer Cavalry.

William Jenkins was born August 26, 1835 in Johnson County, Tennessee to Rowland and Anna (Widby) Jenkins.
Civil War service[]
Jenkins enlisted as a private in Company M on February 2, 1864 in Taylorsville, Tennessee for a period of three years and mustered in May 15, 1864 at Gallatin, Tennessee.
He is described as 28 years old, 5' 7" tall, fair complexion, dark eyes, black hair, and by occupation a farmer.
Jenkins is listed as present for duty through August 1864. He was left sick in Asylum General Hospital at Knoxville, Tennessee on an unrecorded date. He died there on October 14, 1864 due to diarrhea. He had no personal effects, but a note on his death record indicates that his brother--Corporal Andrew W. Jenkins, also of Company M--signed a receipt for his personal effects on August 17, 1865.[1]
When the regiment mustered out on September 5, 1865 at Knoxville it was noted that he had last been paid to June 30, 1864 and had received a $60 bounty.
Jenkins is buried at Knoxville National Cemetery. A dependent applied for a pension, but who this individual was has not been identified.[2]
