Zachariah Garland

Zachariah Taylor Garland (abt 1846 - September 23, 1864) served as a private in Company B, 13th Tennessee Volunteer Cavalry.

Personal life

Zachariah Garland was born abt 1846 in Yancey County, North Carolina to Guthredge and Rebecca (Garland) Garland.

Civil War service

Garland enlisted in as a private in Company B on May 17, 1864 in Nashville, Tennessee for a period of three years and mustered in the same day.[1] He is described on the rolls as 19 years old, 5'7" tall, grey eyes, light hair, fair complexion, and by occupation a farmer in Mitchell County, North Carolina. In addition to his father, Garland's brothers John and William also served in Company B.

Garland was killed in action on September 23, 1864 at Lick Creek, Tennessee. At the time of his death Garland had received a $25 bounty and was listed as present for duty every month prior to his death.

His mother applied for a pension on January 18, 1888. Garland's grave has not been located.
